A 72-year-old security guard has been stabbed multiple times after trying to stop teenagers doing burnouts on an oval in the NSW Southern Highlands.

The guard spoke to two boys and a girl in a car that had been doing burnouts at a Moss Vale oval on Tuesday night, police said.

He then attempted to reach in and remove the keys from the ignition causing one of the teens to get out and attack the man.
