NSW school zones back in play

As NSW students head back to class for the home stretch of the school year, drivers are being reminded to slow down.

Schools zones are back in operation from Tuesday and NSW Centre for Road Safety's Acting Executive Director Bernard Carlon is reminding drivers to keep to the 40km per hour limit.

"This is a critical time to remember that travelling at 40km/h reduces both the likelihood and severity of a crash, which is why school zone speed limits are so important," Mr Carlon said in a statement.

Mr Carlon said flashing lights are set to be installed near all schools in the coming months to help alert drivers of nearby children.

"All schools have clear signs and road markings to remind drivers that kids are about and that they need to slow down."

School zones apply from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm on school days.
