NSW prisoner gives himself up after escape

A prisoner, who escaped from a jail in NSW's Central West just one day after it reopened, has given himself up.

Kyle Ashley-Dale Baker, 23, broke out of the newly recommissioned Kirkconnell Minimum Security Correctional Centre some time between Friday night and Saturday morning.

The prison, near Bathurst, officially reopened on Thursday after being mothballed in 2011.

After days of searching, Baker walked into Penrith Police Station in Sydney's west about 3.40pm on Tuesday.

He had been serving a sentence for aggravated break and enter.

He's set to face Penrith Local Court on Wednesday charged with escaping lawful custody.
