NSW man punches cop after foot chase

After crashing his car near Bathurst, a man has allegedly punched a policeman before two bystanders helped the officer arrest the attacker.

A police officer approached the 30-year-old who was getting into a taxi near a crashed BMW on Monday morning before the man ran away.

After a short chase, police say the man punched the officer as he tried to arrest him before two witnesses helped handcuff the attacker.

A shortened firearm was found in the crashed car and drugs believed to be ice, heroin and LSD were located at the scene, police say.

The man is yet to be charged but is being held at Bathurst police station.
