A Sydney man has been accused of staging a car crash to secure $1.1 million worth of insurance claims.

The 24-year-old was on Tuesday charged with 12 counts of fraud after police investigating dodgy insurance claims looked into his accident.

It's alleged he was the driver of a vehicle involved in a staged crash in Liverpool in early May 2015 which became the subject of fraudulent insurance claims for the occupants.

He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Liverpool Local Court on September 13.

The alleged fraudster is the 13th person to be charged by detectives investigating compulsory third party insurance claims.

Collectively, the alleged frauds they have uncovered are worth more than $11 million and have resulted in more than 100 charges being laid.
