A man who fled after a NSW Central Coast hit and run that left a grandmother in hospital is to face court in May.

The accident happened at Wyong on Saturday night when a 56-year-old woman was stopped at traffic lights and another car crashed into the back of her.

The driver of the second car drove away, police say.

The woman suffered serious spinal injuries and was airlifted to Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital.

A 24-year-old Budgewoi man surrendered to Wyong police on Sunday afternoon.

He was charged with negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, drive in a manner dangerous occasioning grievous bodily harm and indictable fail to stop.

He was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Wyong Local Court on May 6.
