NSW Greens oppose 'lazy' GST increase

The NSW Greens believe the Baird government's proposed increase to the GST is a "lazy fix" that will only burden low and middle income households.

Greens MP John Kaye says that to raise revenue fairly, governments should concentrate on closing tax loopholes for the rich rather than lifting the GST rate from 10 to 15 cent.

Meanwhile the NSW Council of Social Service says 86 per cent of the state's low to middle income families are concerned about a potential rise in the GST, according to a report released this month.
