NSW govt push for fed infrastructure funds

The NSW treasurer will call for the Commonwealth to dig deep for city and nation-building infrastructure when he meets with his interstate counterparts in Adelaide.

Speaking ahead of Friday's Board of Treasurers meeting, Dominic Perrottet said he will push for more federal infrastructure funding to boost the economy.

Mr Perrottet said the Commonwealth budget was expected to receive a significant boost thanks to higher-than-expected mining royalties, and he wanted to ensure infrastructure remained "front and centre" of the conversation.

He said NSW's $93 billion infrastructure spend over four years would add half a percentage point to growth and create thousands of jobs.

But, national partnership infrastructure funding in the federal budget continued to put NSW at a disadvantage on a per capita basis relative to other states, he said.

Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has repeatedly said the government is doing enough with its $100 billion, 10-year infrastructure program.

Mr Perrottet also said Friday's meeting would give states another opportunity to lobby the Commonwealth for a say on population planning at COAG.
