Man dies after being hit by car in Sydney

An elderly man has died after being hit by a car in western Sydney.
Paramedics were unable to revive the man, believed to be in his 70s, after he was struck at Fitzwilliam Road, Toongabbie, shortly before 6pm.
The female driver, believed to be in her 30s, was uninjured.

Earlier on Monday, a man died after his car crashed through a school fence and hit a tree at Shortland in suburban Newcastle.
