NSW doctor banned ahead of assault trial

A NSW doctor charged with sexually assaulting six female patients over a 10-year period has been banned from practising medicine.

Immunologist Dr Jeremy Coleman, 63, was charged in March with sexual assault and indecent assault offences allegedly committed at his Newcastle clinic between 2003 and 2012.

Police allege the offences were committed against six women, aged between 24 and 55, during consultations at a specialist clinic on Watt Street.

On March 22, Dr Coleman consented to a condition on his registration that he "not practise medicine" until the charges have been heard, a Medical Council of NSW spokesman told AAP on Friday.

The spokesman said it was the second condition imposed on the doctor's registration in recent years.

"During the earlier period of investigation by the police, Dr Coleman had been permitted to practise medicine with the safeguard imposed on his registration by the Medical Council in 2014 that necessitated the presence of a chaperone when seeing female patients," he said.

Officers are investigating whether there could be more victims who are yet to come forward.

Documents and a computer were seized from the clinic following Dr Coleman's arrest.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Newcastle Local Court this month.
