NSW boy's encounter with shark goes global

Eden Hasson had no issue taking to the water again after a now-famous photo revealed he'd unknowingly surfed over the top of a shark.

The 10-year-old's father, Chris Hasson, captured his close encounter on Tuesday evening at Samurai Beach, a popular surf spot near their Port Stephens home.

Mr Hasson says Eden was about to come ashore when he suggested his son go out for one more wave so he could get some photographs.

"He took off on the wave and I saw something out of the corner of my eye which is why I looked at the photos straight afterwards," Mr Hasson told AAP on Thursday.

"When I zoomed in on the second one I was like, no waaaay."

Mr Hasson shared his photos on Facebook and they have attracted global attention, with journalists emailing and calling from New Zealand, the UK, Germany, Chile and America.

He said Eden wasn't concerned by the encounter and returned to the water the next day.

"He's excited. Obviously it's a pretty cool story to tell his mates," Mr Hasson said.
