A man's motorcycle has been confiscated after he was allegedly clocked riding at 214 kilometres per hour as he tried to get away from police on the Hume Highway in NSW.

The 36-year-old was first spotted by highway patrol officers speeding at 174km/h in a 110km/h zone at Tumblong, in the NSW Riverina, on Sunday afternoon.

When police tried to pull him over, the rider, who had Victorian registration, accelerated away reaching speeds of 214km/h.

The pursuit ended when the rider eventually stopped nearby at Snow Ball Creek with police taking his bike on the spot and suspending his licence.

He's been charged with reckless and furious riding and will face Gundagai court next month.
