Man in coma after setting own home on fire

A man is in an induced coma after allegedly setting his home on fire during a welfare check in Sydney's south.

Paramedics who were checking on the 41-year-old man at a home in Bardwell Valley on Monday evening say he was aggressive.

He then allegedly set fire to the home.

Firefighters doused the blaze while paramedics treated the man for significant burns to his arms and legs.

He was in an induced coma in St George Hospital early on Tuesday morning.
