Man shot in arm, shoulder in Newcastle

A man has turned up at a Newcastle hospital with gunshot wounds to his hand and shoulder, prompting a police investigation.
The man, 24, was "dropped" at Mater Hospital in Waratah about 11pm on Wednesday, NSW police said in a statement on Thursday.
They are now waiting to interview him about his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening.

Meanwhile, police also responded overnight to reports of gunshots being fired in nearby Waratah West.
It's not yet known if the two incidents are related.
