Jealous teen spared jail for bashing

A teenager in a jealous rage when he bashed his terrified ex-girlfriend and smashed her car when she was in it has narrowly avoided jail.

Saeed Beyrouti pulled her hair, punched her, pulled her out of the car onto the concrete, smashed her car windows, jumped on the car roof and threatened to kill her and her male friend.

Magistrate Susan McIntyre described as "breathtaking" the level of "violence and aggression that you showed the poor woman" on the night of May 28 last year.

She placed the 19-year-old, from Prestons in Sydney's southwest, on a 12-month intensive correction order for intimidation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and fined him $1000 for damaging the car.

Beyrouti had been "looking down the barrel of a jail sentence" and was only saved by the fact he had never been in trouble before and this was the first time he had indulged in aggressive behaviour, the magistrate said.

"I have rejected outright any proposition that you were somehow affected by medication you take for Crohn's disease and that caused your outburst," she said.

"The reality is that you were affected by overwhelming jealousy and upset because this poor woman was with someone else."

The woman had been in her parked car with her friend when Beyrouti drove up behind, got out and circled the car repeatedly yelling at her to get out.

As Beyrouti's friend tried to restrain him, he yelled "I'm going to kill him and her", before grabbing the woman by the hair and punching her.

He kicked the car, pulled off the windscreen wipers, which he used to smash the windows, and pulled the woman out of the car onto the concrete.

"The victim felt pain where she was being pulled by her hair and when her knees hit the concrete she felt glass from her windscreen cutting into them," said court documents.
