Man pulled from Macquarie River charged

A man who took off from police in western NSW had to be rescued from a river by the officers a short time later.

Officers were patrolling Dubbo CBD on Monday afternoon when they saw a man with an outstanding warrant.

The man allegedly ran off and police lost sight of him, but when more officers arrived they heard someone calling for help from the direction of the Macquarie River.

Three constables, a woman and two men, swam out to a 20-year-old man to pull him to safety.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment, and is expected to be charged with the outstanding warrant and drug offences on Tuesday.
