A Chinese woman, who was found with her throat cut at her home in Sydney's north, had spoken about her troubled relationship to a neighbour.

Wei Dung Zheng, 68, was found with a large wound on her neck in the bedroom of her home in Forestville on Tuesday.

It is believed her partner, 77, was trying to assist her when paramedics arrived.

He was arrested and questioned by detectives but released without charge.

The results of a post-mortem examination on Wednesday were inconclusive and police are awaiting a toxicology report. AAP has been told Ms Zheng had previously spoken to a neighbour about her relationship problems.

However, other neighbours said the couple seemed happy and they had not heard of any violence.

"She was a very nice lady," one neighbour, who did not want to be named, said.
