Body of teen who died in water hole found

The body of a teenager who disappeared after falling into a swimming hole in NSW has been found.

The 19-year-old hit his head on rocks while swinging from a rope at the swimming hole in Nimbin in the state's far north after midday on Tuesday.

Despite efforts by his friends and bystanders, the teen never surfaced and he could not be found.

Local police, police rescue, paramedics and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter all went to the scene at Hanging Rocks Falls and searched for the young man without success.

The search resumed on Wednesday morning, and police said his body was discovered about 11.30am.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be the missing teen, who was from the state's Illawarra region, police said.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
