Man dies after getting out of his car to check for damage on Central Coast Highway near Erina

A man has died after being hit by a passing car while checking damage to his vehicle following a collision on NSW's Central Coast.

He was involved in a crash with another vehicle on the Central Coast Highway near Erina just after 5am on Tuesday and was struck when he got out of his car, police say.

The road remains closed heading towards Gosford as police investigate.
