Man in Sydney rooftop chase to face court

A crowbar-wielding man who led police on a rooftop chase in inner Sydney is due to face court charged with a raft of offences.

The 33-year-old Gurrundah man is accused of breaking into a Surry Hills unit complex on Wednesday.

He is also charged with damaging a camper trailer and a car in a fire in the building's underground car park in the early hours of Thursday.

The man then allegedly went into a Bourke St backyard about 6.30am on Thursday and used a crowbar to smash a glass door.

He threatened residents and demanded car keys but fled empty handed, police said.

The man also allegedly went into three backyards on Nickson Lane.

"Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command attended, and the man attempted to flee across rooftops on Nickson Street," police said in a statement.

"The 33-year-old man was arrested after a struggle with officers."

He is due to face the Central Local Court on Friday charged with 10 offences, including break and enter and steal, two counts of damaging property by fire, armed break and enter with intent and resisting arrest.
