A motorbike rider who wasn't wearing a helmet or shoes, is in an induced coma after losing control of his bike during a police chase in Sydney's inner-west.

Police say they tried to pull over the 37-year-old rider after he was spotted speeding in Five Dock on Monday morning.

A short time later he lost control and crashed near Henry Street, was treated at the scene for injuries and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he is in an induced coma.
