Man hit by passing van in Sydney

A man has been hit by a van after he stepped out of his car to retrieve a ball on a highway in northern Sydney.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, stopped his car on the Pacific Highway before getting out to retrieve a ball when he was hit by a passing van.

He is in a serious condition with head, chest and limb injuries at Royal North Shore Hospital.
