Man held over hoax threats to hospitals

A man accused of making hoax threats to nine Sydney health facilities and hospitals, forcing the evacuation of at least one, will be charged.

The 30-year-old allegedly used a payphone in Randwick in the city's east to make the bogus threats on Monday and Tuesday last week.

Police arrested the man at a home in Kingsford on Monday morning and say he's being charged with multiple counts of using a carriage service for a hoax threat.

Patients, some in wheelchairs, were evacuated from the top five floors of the Prince of Wales private hospital following the calls.

The Royal Prince Alfred, Royal North Shore and Longueville Private hospital were also believed to be affected.

The hospital hoax caller was refused bail and will face Waverley Local Court on Tuesday charged with using a carriage service to make threats.
