‘Argument’ heard before man found dying in Sydney’s southwest

Neighbours said they heard a loud, aggressive argument before a man was allegedly shot in the leg and stabbed repeatedly in the head on a street in Sydney's southwest.

The 29-year-old man died in Liverpool Hospital after being discovered on Claribel Street in Bankstown with serious head and leg injuries.

Police sources have told The Daily Telegraph the man could have been left near the hospital by friends or associates unwilling to be identified. 

A doctor leaving work at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital discovered the man and performed first aid including CPR after alerting hospital staff.

The man is believed to have sustained the injuries about midnight after getting into an argument on the street.

A 30-year-old shirtless man was arrested not far from where the victim was discovered, and was taken to Bankstown Police Station.

He is still being questioned, but police expect to lay charges later today.

The man will be tested for traces of gunshot residue and speciality ballistics dogs have been searching the scene.
