Four killed in NSW house fires in a week

A fourth person has died in a house fire in NSW this week just a day after authorities pleaded for people to make sure their homes are properly protected.

Some 22 people have been killed in house fires this year, double the numbers of deaths last year.

A man was pulled unconscious from a blaze in Albury on Friday morning but despite the efforts of firefighters performing CPR, he could not be saved.

The cause of the blaze is still to be determined.

Fire and Rescue NSW Commissioner Greg Mullins said on Thursday it was concerning that many homes did not have working smoke alarms.

"People shouldn't be complacent about home fire safety," he said.

"It's important to remember to turn off electrical appliances before you go to bed, keep a close eye on pots and pans when you're cooking and clean the lint filter on the clothes dryer."

He said residents should also look out for people who live alone or are elderly.

*Clean lint filters on the clothes dryer before or after each use

*Don't overload power points and power boards

*Keep candles well away from curtains and put them out before leaving the room

*Never smoke in bed
