Man charged with Sydney stabbing murder

A man has been charged with murder after a 22-year-old man was dropped off by a cab at a western Sydney hospital with stab wounds to his torso and head.

The victim arrived at Mount Druitt Hospital about 5pm on Wednesday and died a short time later despite the efforts of medical staff.

Police set up a crime scene at a nearby unit on Mueller Place, where it's alleged the man was stabbed, and arrested 56-year-old Rey Quintana.

Quintana is known to the victim but not related, police say.

The property was forensically examined as Quintana was taken to Nepean Hospital under police guard.

He was later charged with murder.

Quintana did not apply for bail and it was formally refused when his matter was mentioned in Mount Druitt Local Court on Thursday.

He's due to appear in Penrith Local Court via audio-visual link on April 27.

NSW Police are also examining a unit on nearby Balleny Place and believe the victim walked there before hailing the taxi.

They urged anyone who saw the injured man to come forward.
