Man charged with defacing NSW war memorial

A man is due to face court charged with defacing a war memorial in Bathurst, NSW.

Police were called about 3pm on Thursday after a man was seen spray painting a war memorial in the town's Machattie Park.

Officers spoke to a 39-year-old man in Simpsons Lane. He allegedly armed himself with a golf club before police restrained him.

Police allegedly found spray paint, cannabis and drug paraphernalia at the man's home.

He is due to face the Bathurst Local Court on Friday charged with wilfully damage or deface any protected place, destroy or damage property, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and possess and supply prohibited drug.
