Man charged with assaulting NSW policeman

A man has been charged with assaulting a police officer who was arresting him after a traffic incident on a Sydney street.

The 32-year-old Guilford man allegedly struck the police inspector on the side of the head as he struggled against being arrested at Merrylands on Saturday.

He ran off but was arrested at a nearby shopping centre and has been charged with assault and resisting arrest. The inspector did not need medical treatment.
