A 26-year-old man's been charged following a fire and siege at a house in Oakhurst in Sydney's west.

Police were called to the home just before midnight on February 6 after reports a man had barricaded himself in a room.

A short while later, smoke was seen coming from the room and the family fled the premises.

The man was then seen on the roof of a neighbouring property, armed with a knife, where he allegedly made threats and threw tiles.

The man was arrested on February 7 when he jumped off the roof, and as he was being taken to hospital, it's alleged he bit an ambulance officer on the arm.

He was released from hospital into police custody on Monday and charged with property damage, assault and being armed.

He was given conditional bail to appear in Mount Druitt Local Court on March 7.
