A man has been charged with holding up a NSW discount shop armed with a blood-filled syringe.

The syringe-wielding 21-year-old allegedly threatened a female worker at a Narrabri shop, in northwest NSW, before demanding cash on Sunday morning.

He was arrested in Taree before being refused bail to front Forster Local Court on Thursday charged with robbery with an offensive weapon.
