Police arrest man 'carrying gun down NSW street'

A man who allegedly walked down a road on the NSW Central Coast carrying a pump-action firearm has been arrested, charged and detained in custody.

Police received several triple zero calls late on Sunday morning reporting an armed man was walking along Casey Drive at Watanobbi.

A police search was launched and after a man fitting the description was sighted an officer arrested him without incident in a local park.

Police allegedly found 59 live rounds of .22 calibre ammunition and crystal amphetamine in the man's backpack and a .22 calibre pump-action firearm he had allegedly thrown into a drain.

The 28-year-old man was charged with possess shortened firearm, possess loaded firearm in a public place, possess ammunition without licence/permit and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear in Wyong Local Court on Monday.
