A man has been charged after he allegedly twice reversed into a marked police car after a short pursuit through Sydney.

Police say officers attempted to pull over the 31-year-old driver after he made an illegal U-turn, but he led them on a short chase along Pennant Hills Rd at Ryde.

The driver then stopped at an intersection where he allegedly reversed into the police car, drove forward and reversed into it again.

Two officers were injured when the man stopped a short time later and struggled with them as he was arrested, police said.

He allegedly later refused a breath test.

The man has been charged with a number of offences including a police pursuit offence under Skye's law, assaulting police and refusing a breath test.
