A man has been arrested on arrival at Sydney Airport on firearm charges after police allegedly found two guns at a house in 2014.

Police said they arrested the 26-year-old man at the international terminal at 10.30am this morning after he arrived on an international flight.

On August 25 in 2014 police say officers from Campsie Local Area Command searched a home on Dudley Street in Punchbowl and found and seized two firearms.

No one was home at the time, and Strike Force Anne was set up to investigate the discovery, which culminated in the man's arrest.

After his arrest the man was taken to Botany Bay Police Station where he was charged with two counts of possessing an unregistered firearm, and two counts of possessing ammunition without holding a permit.

He briefly appeared in Waverly Local Court today where bail was refused.

He is now set to face Burwood Local Court on August 26.
