A young man has been charged with setting alight a teenager who remains in a Sydney hospital five weeks after the alleged incident.

The 20-year-old man and 14-year-old boy, who are not related, were in the backyard of a home in Lockhart, near Wagga Wagga, when the incident occurred on August 28.

Police will allege the man threw a flammable liquid on the teen before igniting a lighter near him.
