NSW Lib Photios pleads guilty to DUI

NSW Liberal powerbroker Michael Photios will face court charged with low-range drink-driving.

The former NSW MP returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.051 during a random breath test in his home suburb of Rose Bay in Sydney's east on the evening of Friday March 11, according to documents tendered in the Waverley Local Court on Wednesday.

Police stopped his black Mercedes on New South Head Road about 8.35pm.

Photios, 55, told officers he'd drunk about five glasses of white wine between 6pm and 8.15pm, and eaten light food, according to a police statement of facts.

"The accused was co-operative and did not appear to be affected by alcohol," said the statement, by Constable Ricky Colbron.

He was given a court attendance notice for driving with a low-range prescribed concentration of alcohol as a first offence and, on Wednesday, lawyer Amanda Pappas entered a plea of guilty on his behalf at Waverley Local Court.

Photios was not in court.

He will be sentenced on July 20, after completing a traffic offenders' program.

A former NSW Liberal MP for the Sydney seat of Ryde, Photios became a lobbyist and has emerged as a state Liberal powerbroker from the party's moderate faction.
