Kids give adults tips in NSW road ads

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione says he feels "frustration tinged with sadness" at the thought of an increasing state road toll.

More than 200 people have lost their lives on NSW roads in the first half of 2016 - 40 more than the corresponding period last year.

In response NSW Police Force has launched a new road safety campaign, interviewing preschool children on responsible driving.

The children, speaking with police officers, said drivers should slow down and wear their seatbelts.

Mr Scipione said the video was another reminder for adults that intelligent decision-making on the road was critical, particularly during the school holiday season, which starts this weekend in NSW.

He said the same mistakes of driving while fatigued, speeding and drink-driving continued to cause fatalities around NSW.

"We've tried everything else ... This campaign is an opportunity to look at this problem through a different set of eyes," Mr Scipione told reporters on Thursday.

"They are the people who have got no control but they are often the ones who live with the consequences."

Police Minister Troy Grant hoped the campaign would get the attention of adults and parents in particular.

"It's a reminder that what we do, our kids often replicate," Mr Grant said.
