The jury has been discharged in the trial of a man accused of attempted murder after his friend was maimed by a parcel bomb that exploded at his Sydney home 19 years ago.

Roberto Saenz de Heredia, 48, had pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder Brett Boyd, who lost a thumb and an eye and suffered head injuries in 1998 when a parcel exploded at the Belrose home he shared with his girlfriend Simone Cheung.

The NSW District Court jury, which had been deliberating for a week, was discharged on Friday after Judge David Frearson was told they were to unable reach a verdict.
