A second jury has been discharged at the trial of a Sydney man accused of an Islamic State-inspired stabbing of his neighbour.

Ihsas Khan, 24, pleaded not guilty on the grounds of mental illness to committing a terrorist act and wounding with intent to murder.

His neighbour, Wayne Greenhalgh, was stabbed multiple times at a Minto reserve in 2016.

Both trials only lasted a few days before each jury was discharged for legal reasons.

The matter is expected to come back before Justice Geoffrey Bellew later in 2018.
