Islam tirade suspect refused bail in NSW

A man accused of verbally abusing two Muslim women as they drove through the NSW city of Newcastle has been refused bail.
Police allege Scott William Papworth, 27, approached a car being driven by a 26-year-old woman wearing a veil on Monday night.
The woman's mother was sitting in the passenger seat.

Papworth allegedly yelled abuse at the women and punched a bystander who tried to intervene.
He has been charged with intimidation, larceny, maliciously destroying property and common assault.
Papworth appeared before Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday, where he was refused bail.
He'll next face court on November 18.
