Inquest to be held into NSW shooting death

An inquest will be held into the death of a NSW environment officer who was murdered in 2014 by an elderly farmer during a dispute over illegal land clearing.

Ian Turnbull - who was 82 when he died in custody in March - was jailed for at least 24 years in June 2016 for murdering Glen Turner, 51, near the farmer's property at Croppa Creek in the state's north.

An inquest will be held into the death of Mr Turner in early 2018, a spokesperson for the NSW Coroner's Court said on Wednesday.
