Inquest into Sydney woman's burning death

The husband of a woman doused with fuel and fatally set alight was intimidated by her, an inquest into her death has heard.

Parwinder Kaur died on December 3, 2013, a day after neighbours saw the 32-year-old being transformed into a human "ball of fire" at her Rouse Hill Home in Sydney's northwest.

She had suffered burns to almost 85 per cent of her body.

Ms Kaur's sister-in-law, Manjinder Hathi, told Glebe Coroners Court on Wednesday the 32-year-old had a "strong personality".

Ms Hathi said she thought her brother Kulwinder Singh gave in to whatever his wife wanted.

"I could see he was a bit intimidated by her," she said.

"I could see my brother could not stand up to her."

Ms Hathi rejected suggestions Ms Kaur had complained of being beaten by her husband.

She said the couple wanted children together and discussed starting an IVF program.

"They wanted to have kids, both of them," Ms Hathi said.

When asked by counsel assisting Philip Strickland SC what her brother had told her about the incident, Ms Hathi claimed Mr Singh barely discussed it because he was "too traumatised".

She said he told her "he was upstairs when he heard a scream" and ran downstairs.

Mr Strickland questioned her whether she had ever asked her brother why there was a fuel can and lighter in the laundry that was not normally there.

"No. It's hard to talk about it," she replied.

"We did not talk about what happened."
