'I'm going to die': stabbed man to partner

"I'm going to die, I'm going to die", a scared and panicked Sydney man told his partner over the phone after his former wife allegedly stabbed him, a jury has heard.

"He said, 'Come quick, come quick, I've been stabbed, I've been stabbed'," the partner said in the Downing Centre District Court on Tuesday.

His ex-wife, who can't be named for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder the man at her home on Sydney's lower north shore in September 2015.

The man says his ex-wife tricked him into closing his eyes by saying their son was playing hide and seek, before she stabbed him and screamed: "You'll never take (him) away from me."

The man suffered several stab wounds to his chin, chest and neck and lost a considerable amount of blood.

Her lawyer says the stabbing was unintentional after the woman blindly wielded the knife during a fight in which she lost her glasses.

Video of the Neutral Bay home after the stabbing reveals a large amount of blood in the passage and kitchen floor.

The father stood up and left the courtroom quickly on Tuesday as the video showed the blood-spattered hallway.

A detective had earlier testified there was so much blood in the hallway she had to tiptoe through it.

The father's new partner, to whom he is now married, cried as she recounted the telephone conversation she had with him moments after the stabbing.

"She stabbed me in the heart, I'm going to die, I'm going to die," she said he told her on the phone.

He'd sounded scared and panicked, she recalled.

She said she drove straight to the home where she found ambulance and police officers. Her partner was then taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment.
