Remains believed to be of missing woman were buried in creek

Human remains have believed to be those of a woman police allege was murdered in 2018 in Sydney were found this week in a shallow creek bed grave, just a couple metres from a suburban road.

In December 2018, detectives established Strike Force Admirality to investigate the disappearance of Nadire Sensoy, 71, from her home in Prospect in the city’s west.

In 2020, police offered a $350,000 reward for information that would help solve her disappearance.

In March 2023, just over a week after a coronial inquiry into Sensoy’s suspected death was suspended, a 47-year-old man was arrested in Wagga Wagga.

He was charged with domestic violence murder and remains before the courts.

Police will allege the man murdered Sensoy, who was known to him, between December 6, 2018, and December 11, 2018, in the Blacktown area.

Following further inquiries, police on Tuesday this week began to search a property on Powers Road, Seven Hills.

They found human remains on the property yesterday.

Superintendent Darrin Batchelor said this was the third visit police had made to the site.

He praised investigators’ tenacity, saying that the remains had actually been found about two metres beyond the designated 100m search area, along a creek bed that ran near the road.

The remains will be forensically tested, but police believe they are those of Sensoy.

Batchelor did not say what had led investigators to the Powers Road site, only that “several investigative strategies” were used.

He said any link between the man police allege killed Sensoy and the place where her body was found, was yet to be established.

Batchelor also confirmed that Sensoy’s children had been told of the discovery, news they received with “mixed emotions”.

The investigation continues.
