Homes damaged, drivers warned in cold NSW

Severe storms have hit two NSW towns as the cold snap continues with winds picking up and snow falling heavily in alpine areas.

At least 12 homes and sheds have been damaged in Burrumbuttock, in the Riverina region, as storms and winds whipped through the town on Friday night, also ripping off the roof of a home in Armidale in the Northern Tablelands.

Motorists have been warned to drive carefully as roads reopened on Sunday morning after snowfall led to closures on the Great Western Highway between Bathurst and Lithgow, and roads near Orange and Molong.

Blizzard conditions have been forecast for the Snowy Mountains by the Bureau of Meteorology.
