High fire danger forecast for NSW

NSW emergency services are bracing for a high fire danger long weekend as they near the end of a month in which they were called to more than 2500 fires.

A dry winter and warm weather means experts are urging the public to consider the risks they may encounter and have an escape plan.

"You need to know the fire danger for the area you live in, or the area you may be visiting ... fires can start and spread rapidly," NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said in a statement on Friday.

While there are no total fire bans expected for the long weekend, fire danger is high especially along the state's coastline.

People travelling this long weekend need to be aware of the dangers present with a heightened risk in bushland areas, an RFS spokesman told AAP on Friday.

"It is still extraordinarily dry," he said.

Anyone planning a barbecue over the long weekend is also advised to check fire danger ratings first.
