Head-on collision kills NSW man

A 38-year-old man has died in a head-on crash near Singleton, in the NSW Hunter region.

The man was driving a ute which collided with a car driven by a 21-year-old man on the New England Highway shortly before 8.30pm on Sunday night, police said.

The man, from Scone, died on arrival at Singleton Hospital while the 21-year-old survived with minor injuries.

It was the second death on the state's roads on Sunday, with a 76-year-old man also dying after his car hit a power pole on The Northern Road about 1.20am at South Penrith.

The driver, from Glenmore Park, suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Westmead Hospital, where he died later in the day.
