Goulburn prison cracks down on contraband

NSW Corrective Services have a bought a new hi-tech body scanner for use in notorious Goulburn prison.

The prison has made the news after it emerged inmates had taken selfies and posted them on social media and in one case, allegedly organise an escape attempt with a smuggled mobile phone.

The new body orifice scanning chair has been bought for Goulburn Correctional Centre before the rollout of full body scanners in medium and maximum prisons across the state.

The scanner can detect metal as small as a staple and mobile phones whether they are switched on or off, according to the manufacturers.

The introduction of the scanner comes after inmate Beau Wiles posted images of himself on Facebook two days before he escaped from Goulburn jail in September last year.
