Fund for family of shot NSW environment officer Glen Turner

A trust fund has been set up for the family of an environmental officer shot dead in northern NSW last month.

Farmer Ian Turnbull, 79, has been charged with the murder of Glen Turner, a 51-year-old father of two at Croppa Creek, north of Moree.

Turnbull is in custody after being refused bail last week.

The fund, set up by an adviser to the Turner family, will provide ongoing financial support to Mr Turner's wife, Alison, and two children, Alexandra, 10 and Jack, 9.

The NSW government is also providing financial assistance.

"There is obviously no way to compensate the family for the loss of Glen but there are all sorts of incidental expenses that are thrown up by what has occurred as well as the longer-term expenses of raising children," NSW Environment Minister Rob Stokes told ABC radio.

Mr Stokes is encouraging businesses and individuals to give generously.

After Mr Turner's death, his family released a statement saying: "His passing comes at a time when his dreams of the farm and family, which he had planned and lovingly built together with Alison, were coming to fruition."
