Four seats still in doubt in NSW election

NSW Nationals MP John Barilaro has claimed victory overnight in the bellwether seat of Monaro in the state's south after Saturday's election.

But four coalition seats remain in doubt after Premier Mike Baird's coalition government was returned with a reduced majority.

They are East Hills, Gosford, Lismore and The Entrance.

The Liberals are currently ahead in East Hills as vote counting continues on Monday.

The ALP leads in Gosford and The Entrance while the Greens are ahead in Lismore, according to Antony Green's NSW Election Website.

The coalition is expected to win a total of 54 seats to Labor's 34, with the Greens tipped to pick up an unprecedented four seats in the lower house.

The strong performances of the Greens in Ballina and Lismore have demonstrated the opposition to coal seam gas in the region.

Two independents have also secured seats, in Lake Macquarie and Sydney.

Other recent wins include Liberal MP Eleni Petinos who took the seat of Miranda and the Nationals' Mark Coure narrowly won Oatley by two per cent.
