Four dead in separate crashes in NSW

Four people are dead after a horror start to the weekend on NSW roads, prompting a plea from police to slow down.

A woman believed to be in her 60s died and nine other people were injured in an apparent head-on collision between two cars carrying multiple passengers at Running Stream, near Bathurst, about 11am.

Four people were airlifted to Orange Base Hospital and five others were driven there.

Earlier, a woman, believed to be 22, was killed at Moama near the Victorian border when the car in which she was a passenger left the road and struck a tree just before 3am.

And a 19-year-old man died in hospital after being rescued in the early hours from a car which hit a tree at Coutts Crossing, on the NSW mid north coast.

Northwest of Sydney, a motorcyclist in his 60s was killed at Maroota after his vehicle left the road just before 9.30am.

NSW police are urging drivers to display caution and abide by the road rules.
